What is a pool FAS DPD Test?

The FAS DPD Test is used to measure both total chlorine and free chlorine levels in swimming pool water.  This pool test was specifically created for public pool operators and commercial pool service professionals as a standard way to measure chlorine levels across the swimming pool industry.  This is a variation of the regular DPD test as it allows both measurements of the levels of free and combined chlorine.  This test is also recognized by government health departments, as this test does not thoroughly rely on the distinction between color results.

The FAS-DPD test has turned out to become a favorite method for testing swimming pools.  Professionals prefer this method because it is easy to detect chlorine concentrations of 10 parts-per-million (ppm) and higher, as public and commercial pools tend to keep higher chlorine concentrations due to higher bather load.

As this test is more complex, requires more testing tools and reagents, and takes longer than the regular DPD test, digital pool FAS-DPD testing devices have become available in recent years.
